Spean Lodge Country House, Spean Bridge

4 Star GOLD Spean Lodge Country House is a historic Highland Lodge set in landscaped grounds in the village of Spean Bridge, just 9 miles north of Fort William.

This Georgian lodge is set in 2 acres of landscaped and wooded grounds above the River Spean in the heart of Lochaber which is known as the Outdoor Capital of the UK. The area offers plenty of opportunites for hill walking, mountain biking, wildlife watching, kayaking and other watersports. The Lodge is just a short drive from Ben Nevis and the Nevis Range ski resort with its mountain gondola.

The Lodge has a fascinating history and is tastefully furnished with antiques and original paintings complementing the age of the house. There are three guest rooms: a Double, Twin and large Family room. All rooms are ensuite and individually furnished and decorated with William Morris fabrics. A light filled and spacious guest lounge is available to visitors, with an open fire and views towards the mountains. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds which attract much birdlife as well as red squirrels, pine marten and other wildlife.

Your breakfast is served in the elegant dining room overlooking the garden and prepared by Suzanne who uses only the best Scottish produce. Enjoy a full Scottish breakfast including haggis and black pudding, or fish options such as smoked salmon, oak smoked kippers or haddock. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten or dairy free options also available.

Spean Lodge is perfect for exploring Ben Nevis, the Caledonian Canal, The Great Glen, Loch Ness, Road to the Isles, Isle of Skye, Ardnamurchan peninsula and Cairngorms National Park. Stunning mountain scenery, lots of walks, outdoor activities and wildlife encounters. Local heritage sites include the famous Commando Memorial and the site of the first skirmish of the 1745 Jacobite Uprising. You can read about some of the things to see and do in the area in our Jacobite Journeys blog.

Village facilities in Spean Bridge include pubs and restaurants for eating out, shops such as the woollen mill and Highland Soap store, as well as a golf course. It's only 5 minutes walk from the B&B to the railway station on the West Highland Line with connections for the Jacobite Steam Train which takes you along the scenic Road to the Isles and Glenfinnan viaduct. You can also travel on the Caledonian Sleeper service from London direct to Spean Bridge.
