Auld Post Office B&B, near Thurso

4 Star GOLD B&B, The Auld Post Office, licensed accommodation is set in 8 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens and private woodland.

Quietly situated in the countryside on the A9, with views across the heather moorland to the peaks of Sutherland. Just a short drive to both Thurso and Wick and perfect for a tour of the Northern Highlands or a relaxing stopover on the North Coast 500.

Accommodation in the main house comprises a choice of two ensuite bedrooms (1 kingsize and 1 superking / twin) each with French doors to the garden. Individually decorated in a blend of Art Deco and contemporary style. Each room features bathrobes, toiletries, hospitality tray and a silent running fridge with fresh milk. 

Food & Drink

Wake up to a delicious hearty breakfast with locally sourced produce including smoked salmon from Orkney. Fresh bread is baked daily. 
For evening meals, there are quality restaurants a five minute drive away in the village of Halkirk and your hosts are happy to make a reservation for you.

The Auld Post Office offers a unique Garden Sun Lounge for guests with more than 100 Scottish Gins and a selection of Single Malt and Scottish Rum. Garnishes can be hand picked in the herb garden.

Location

Visit the Castle and Gardens at Mey, the former home of our late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, with spectacular views to Stroma and the Orkney Islands. Explore Dunnet Head, the most northerly tip of mainland UK, take an exhilarating walk to the giant sea-stacks at Duncansby Head to one of Britain's best sea-bird colonies. The old red sandstone cliffs have eroded into angular blocks, perfect for the birds to nest on. Puffins, guillemot, razorbill, arctic skua, curlew and wheatear can be seen swooping in from the sea onto the high Caithness cliffs.

Two whisky distilleries and a gin distillery all offer tours and tastings. Explore the Neolithic Cairns of Camster, two of Scotland's oldest stone monuments, built more than 5000 years ago or take an unforgettable day trip to the beautiful Orkney Islands with a daily ferry ride from John O'Groats. Watch the waves roll into the beach at Thurso, a surfer's paradise. River fishing and horse-riding can be arrranged nearby.

The Auld Post Office is licensed to serve alcohol to guests in residence from 2pm - 11pm. Premises Licence No. HC/CSR/1806.
As the B&B has a licence to sell alcohol under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, it is exempt from requiring a Short-Term Let licence.
