Craigellie House

5 Star elegant Country House set in delightful private grounds near Blairgowrie amongst the rolling hills of eastern Perthshire.

Allegedly the last mansion house built in Scotland, Craigellie is a hidden gem: rural, but not too rural. Just 90 minutes north of Edinburgh and 2 minutes from the small, farming town of Alyth, yet nestled between fields of fertile farmland and wooded glens. It offers space and tranquillity - a place to breathe fresh air, listen to birdsong, admire night skies void of light pollution and watch red squirrels playing in the trees.

The house is grand, elegant and surrounded by beautiful, private gardens with an adjacent paddock. There are two recently renovated, tastefully decorated, luxurious and extremely comfortable bedrooms which both have en-suite shower rooms. The Yellow Room has a king size bed as well as a sofa bed so is suitable for a couple or a family with up to 2 children under 12. The Green Room has twin beds which can be joined to make a superking.
Downstairs, the sitting room for guests' exclusive use is where you are welcome to put your feet up in front of the wood burning stove, play games or relax in front of the TV. It's really like being a house guest in a country manor.
You are welcome to explore the gardens and look out for wildlife such as buzzards, red squirrels or pine martens. The house benefits from renewable energy from a solar array, biomass boiler and EV charging facilities.

Food

Breakfast is served in the sitting room at your table in the bay window. Choose from options such as cereals, porridge, fruit, yoghurt and croissants, and a full cooked Scottish breakfast including eggs from Craigellie's own free-range, organically fed hens. Your hostess Liz is a trained Nutritional Therapist who likes to focus on quality, buying organic, locally-sourced items where possible. Evening meals can be made available by special arrangement, featuring good home cooking with vegetables from the garden when in season. Craigellie House isn’t licensed but you are welcome to bring your own drinks. Guests can also enjoy Liz's home baking in the afternoons.

The country lanes around Craigellie are cycle-friendly with routes for all abilities and mountain bikers can enjoy nearby Alyth Bike Park. At the bottom of the drive is the Den of Alyth (a designated Special Site of Scientific Interest) offering 22 hectares of mature woodland with peaceful paths across the Alyth Burn, as well as a children's play area. You can also walk to nearby Alyth Hill for views across the Bamff Estate where sometimes you can spot the resident beavers.
