Gardens in Glasgow, The Clyde Valley and Lanarkshire

Glasgow and Lanarkshire have several gardens worth exploring. Here are some hand-picked by our B&Bs

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Kibble Palace. Park and botanic gardens famous for its great conservatory erected by John Kibble. The current conservatory is in its third home, finally being re-opened to the public in 2006. Tea room and glasshouses. Open all year daily, 7am - dusk. Free admission.

Chatelherault Country Park

5 star heritage centre near Hamilton, offering guided tours of the 18th century hunting lodge, nature trails, scenic riverside walks,adventure play ground, picnic facilities,cafe & gift shop.

The Pineapple

Near Airth, this folly was built in 1761 in the shape of a pineapple. Walled garden with extensive glasshouses, pineapple pits andwoodland walks. An all-ability path leads from the car park to a pond viewing platform.National Trust forScotland.

Greenbank House and Garden

On the south side of Glagsow can be found Greenbank Garden, described as a ‘celebration of the gardener’s art’. It is very much a garden for gardeners, as it has an educational element which seeks to show visitors how to grow more unusual plants, some of which would usually only be available to the trade. Open all year.

Little Sparta

On the eastern edge of South Lanarkshire, near the village of Dunsyre, you can find Little Sparta. Unlike other gardens, this one was inspired by the artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finlay. Covering 5 acres, the gardens combine sculptures and poetry, each being revealed as you wind your way around the garden. There are over 275 artworks, which makes this garden, truly unique in Scotland. Open June - September. Admission charge.
